Recommended Accessories for iPhone Photography (2024)

For iPhone photo accessories, I apply the same principle as I do for iPhone photo apps: I use as few as possible because I like to travel light. After all, that was one of the reasons I turned to iPhone photography in the first place.

In this yearly updated list, you'll find a recommended list of iPhone photography accessories I use myself. The 2024 edition of this list contains a new iPhone photo accessory!

Table of Contents:

The Moment photo case is my favorite iPhone case

I consider a case for iPhone the most essential iPhone photo accessory. If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know that I'm a huge fan of the Moment iPhone cases and I bought one for each of the new iPhone model. This year is no exception. I bought a Moment photo case for my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

On first look, the Moment iPhone case might be just an average iPhone case. But it comes with an essential feature, that I need: It allows me to attach a wrist strap.

Optionally, you can purchase a drop-in mount and attach any of the Moment lenses to your iPhone. For my iPhone 15 pro max, I also purchased the new Moment wide lens, so I can take wider photos with the 48 megapixel lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

So the three reasons I have been buying Moment photo cases for my new iPhones year after year are:

  1. This iPhone photo accessory allows me to attach a wrist strap, which is an essential feature for me
  2. The Moment photo case allows me to attach an extra lens, like the new wide lens. This way I can capture wider images using the 48 megapixel sensor.
  3. The case protects my iPhone well in case I'd drop it.

Alternatives for an iPhone wrist strap

If you don't plan to use any add-on lens for iPhone but still are looking for a way to securely hold your iPhone while taking photos, you may want to look at the Anker 610 Magnetic Phone Grip.

I bought the Anker 610 magnetic Phone Grip out of curiosity and use it as an alterantive for the wrist strap for quickly taking photos if I don't have a wrist strap attached to the Moment case. The Anker 610 is basically a magnetic and MagSafe compatible ring, that you attach to the back of your iPhone. Then you unfold a smaller ring which will give you a great and adjustable holder for your iPhone.

A tripod for iPhone is essential if you want to take long exposures with iPhone like photographing a firework or photographing flowing water.

Back in my DSLR-era, I had to carry a massive tripod capable of holding a bulky and heavy DSLR camera. But you don't need such a bulky tripod for iPhone Photography. Tripods for iPhones can be notably lighter and, thus, are ideal for travel photography.

I use two tripods for my iPhone Photography.

The first one is the Joby Gorillapod Magnetic. It's a small and lightweight tripod that fits into any bag. It will even fit into the pocket of your jacket.

The Gorillapod has flexible legs so it will securely stand on any surface, and you can even wrap the legs around, e.g., handrails. But the Gorillapod magnetic gives you one more option: You can magnetically attach it to any metal surface. That's just what you can see in the next photo where I attached my iPhone 11 Pro upside time to a metal window frame at a lost place.

The second tripod I use for my iPhone photography is the Rollei Compact Traveller No. 1 that I bought as a replacement for my AmazonBasics Travel Tripod in 2019.

Weighing just 2 pounds and folding to 13.3" it's a great tripod for traveling that doesn't add too much bulk to your carry on luggage.

If you plan to use a tripod for iPhone, you will also need a tripod mount for iPhone.

Before Apple introduced MagSafe, I used the Joby Griptight iPhone mounts.

But with the release of MagSafe, I ditched my Joby Griptight iPhone tripod mounts for a Moment Pro tripod mount for MagSafe. The Moment tripod mount for MagSafe is less bulky and thus better for traveling with carry on luggage and it works great with the Moment case for iPhone.

You can get the Moment tripod mount for MagSafe either directly from Moment or from Amazon.

I've been using the Moment lenses for quite a while until Apple added an ultra-wide lens to iPhone. Then, I skipped using Moment lenses for a while until Apple released iPhones with a 48 megapixel sensor. To be able to capture wider photos with the 48 megapixels sensor with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, I also bought a Moment wide lens again.

Even with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, battery life is still an issue when I'm traveling and shooting. So I consider powerbanks an essential iPhone photo accessory.

I use two power banks for my iPhone 15 Pro Max and both are magnetic batteries from Anker. The first one is the original Anker 521 with a capacity of 5.000 mAh and the second one is the Anker 533 with a capacity of 10.000 mAH. Both are small, ultra portable and allow me to charge my iPhone on the go without using cables (which is the most important thing for me)

You can learn more in the Anker magnetic battery review I've published in the blog.
